En Garde! – A quick review and paint up of some Blue Moon Cardinals Guard

Painted up a couple of 15mm Blue Moon figures this afternoon which I bought on a whim at Partizan earlier this month. Painted really nice and quickly, although the figures themselves I think are not as good as people seem to be raving about on PMT.
Firstly, the noses seem to have been modelled on Gerard Depardieu’s in Cyrano de Bergerac. Then the sword blades are thick, REALLY thick and I can understand why for casting but it’s a shame. Lastly, and perhaps worst in my opinion, the sculptor appears never to have seen the 3 musketeers, 4 musketeers, or ANY visual reference to a casaque because the “sleeve” component looks like a cross between a piece of plate armour (it’s about 1-2mm thick for goodness sake!) and some sort of upper arm jousting shield as it’s seemingly not attached to the body of the garment. I did contemplate getting out the greenstuff and a file but the desire for an easy life got the better of me.

Anyway, I think the end result isn’t too bad all the above notwithstanding. I’m not sure how I’m going to base these up, 20mm squares, pennies, whether I’ll sand and pva the bases or try to do some fancy flag stone type thing. Nor do I really know what I’ll play with them, but I’ve wanted some Musketeers for a while! (Typical Wargamer eh?!)
